Nodules

This summer I've been working with several radio presenters, all hugely talented - but in their very busy schedule they rarely have time to take some basic steps to protect their voice. If you don't take care of your voice it can lead to problems - straining, constant sore throats and even nodules. A damaged voice is painful and can be the end of a great career.

So here are some tips  - drink plenty of water and try to avoid dairy products and caffeine before going on air or making a presentation. If you smoke try to cut down. Think about your breathing are you using you diaphragm ? If not why not - abdominal breathing is what you should be practising. It's worth using a vocal warm up on a regular basis. Get in touch with me if you don't know what that is.

If you notice a change in the quality of your voice get it checked out - go to your GP you could have the start of a nodule. If the sound is strained or altered in any way try using a steamer and drink plenty of water. You should also think about filling your lungs with breath instead of snatching at the breath.

You only have one voice don't lose it- use it!
